Dwight Englewood School

Time: January 23, 2014. 8:00 am
Location: Englewood

Sixth grade students will learn about America’s Grow-a-Row and take part in several of our workshops. Some will try to plan healthy meals for an average of $4.20 per day (the current rate for our country’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Others will learn about health factors which include income, education, location, occupation, built environment, social support, transportation, and more. Students will see how New Jersey counties rank from healthiest to least healthy based on the county’s potential to be healthy (what health factors are available to their residents) and the actual health of that county. Our third workshop will teach students that what is advertised on the packaging of food can often be misleading. By looking at the Nutrition Facts label on a range of products, students will calculate the total fat, calories, sugar, sodium, fiber, and vitamins.
